Frequently Asked Questions

Below are the questions we are asked most frequently, if you have a question that isn’t answered here please contact us for more information.

What is a doula?

A doula is a trained, non-medical support person who provides emotional, physical, and informational support to mothers and families before, during, and after birth. I’m here to walk alongside you, offering practical help, resources, and a calm presence so you feel confident, cared for, and truly supported in your transition to motherhood.

What is Matrescence?

Matrescence is the transformative process of becoming a mother — a profound physical, emotional, social, and spiritual shift that unfolds over time. Just like adolescence, it’s a season of change that deserves understanding, compassion, and support. My work is centred around honouring and guiding you through this life-changing journey.

When should I start engaging you?

Ideally, we connect during pregnancy so we can prepare for your postpartum journey together and ensure you have the right support in place from day one. However, it’s never “too late” — whether you’re in your first weeks home or months into motherhood, I can tailor support to meet you where you are.

Can we meet before I decide?

Absolutely. I offer an obligation-free discovery call or coffee so we can get to know each other, talk about your needs, and see if we’re the right fit. Your comfort and trust are my top priority.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule?

I understand that life with a baby is unpredictable. I simply ask for as much notice as possible so we can find a new time that works for both of us. Please check your agreement for specific cancellation terms.

Do you only work with newborns?

Not at all. While many families engage me during the early weeks, I also work with mothers months — and even years — into their parenting journey. Matrescence doesn’t have an expiry date. You may also want to engage me to help with postpartum sytle support before the baby is born - just reach out and we can chat about how I can best help you!

Do you offer virtual/online support?

Yes. If you’re outside my in-person service area or prefer remote sessions, I can provide emotional support, practical guidance, and resources online via video calls, message me to discuss.

Do you support special circumstances?

Yes. I have experience in pregnancy loss, stillbirth, high-risk pregnancies, and the postpartum journey following medical or emotional challenges. I also have a special interest in supporting neurodivergent mothers and families.

Do you support partners and other family members?

Yes. My role is to support the whole family unit — whether that’s helping partners feel confident in their new role, guiding siblings through the transition, or ensuring everyone feels connected and supported.

How far do you travel?

I work primarily cover Sydney postcodes. If you’re outside this area, I may still be able to help — travel fees may apply contact us to discuss.

How do I book you?

Once we’ve had a discovery call and decided to work together, I’ll send you a service agreement with a quote and/or my service package price list. You will then confirm which service offering suits your needs and your booking is confirmed once the signed agreement and deposit are received.

Note: I am happy to discuss payment plans on a case by case basis, please ask me if this is something that would better suit your situation.

What’s the difference between a doula and a midwife?

A midwife is a medical professional who provides clinical care for you and your baby. A doula provides non-medical, emotional, informational, and physical support. We work alongside your midwife, doctor, or other care providers to ensure you feel supported, informed, and cared for in every way.

Do you bring supplies or resources?

Yes. Depending on your package, I can bring postpartum comfort items, resources, and tools to make your recovery smoother. This might include snacks, herbal teas, baby care items, and handouts tailored to your needs.

How long do sessions go for?

In-home visits are generally 3 hours so we have time for practical support, emotional check-ins, and rest for you. The sessions can be tailored to what you feel would best suit you and your family.

What if I just need help once, not ongoing?

That’s fine! I offer one-off sessions for when you just need a reset, reassurance, or extra hands for a few hours.

Do you work with other professionals?

Yes. I have a trusted network of health professionals, including lactation consultants, perinatal mental health specialists, pelvic floor physiotherapists, nutritionists, and more. If you need extra care, I can connect you with the right people.

Women’s Circles FAQs

What is a Women’s Circle?

A Women’s Circle is a safe, non-judgemental space where women gather in community to share, listen, and connect. It’s a place to rest, reflect, and be witnessed without expectation or pressure. Each circle may include guided discussion, mindfulness, gentle rituals, or creative activities.

Do I need to be a mother to attend?

No. While many of my circles centre around motherhood and matrescence, all women — at any stage of life — are welcome. We run a series of circles that cover different topics related to women.

I’m shy. Do I have to share?

Not at all. You’re welcome to participate in a way that feels comfortable for you. Simply being present and holding space for others is a powerful contribution.

How often do you hold circles?

Circles are currently run on an adhoc basis, with themes that change each time. Some are open to the public, while others are small, intimate gatherings. If you are interested in attending a circle please contact us, if we have enough interest we will run one if not already planned.

What do I need to bring?

Just yourself, an open heart, and anything that makes you feel comfortable — perhaps a journal, a favourite mug for tea, or a cosy wrap. All other materials are provided.

Do you run private or custom circles?

Yes. I offer bespoke circles for groups of friends, mothers’ groups, or special occasions such as blessingways, birthdays, or rites of passage.
